![]() If you want to use just one emulator for everything, use MAME.įeel free to ask some more, if this wasn't clear enough. NeoRAGEx has been discontinued, but several hacks from HappyASR are still 'on the anvil', so to speak.įor CPS/CPS-2, use Final Burn Alpha (FBA), it also has Neo-Geo support. Nebula, Kawaks and MAME need specific drivers, whereas NeoRAGEx does not. NeoRAGEx is by far the easiest of the 3 to use, but it's outdated and doesn't support on-the-fly encryption of Neo-Geo games like Nebula and Kawaks. For Neo-Geo, I suggest that you try out Kawaks, Nebula and NeoRAGEx. I don't use MAME myself, but that is my choice.ģa. Indeed, MAME is by far the most flexible emulator out there. In short Neo-Geo games DO NOT work with a CPS/CPS-2 emulator (unless the emulator has support for Neo-Geo) and vice versa. If you find CPS-2 games in the 'net, you most likely notice that the archives don't have the XOR tables in them. XOR files in the archive have an "x" as the last letter before the actual extension. XOR tables do away the encryption that the game has. In addition to the actual files, CPS-2 games need specific XOR tables released by the dudes at CPS2Shock. CPS games work on CPS emulators as is, because there's no encryption in them.Unlike it's big brother, which brings me to:ĬPS-2 roms consist of files usually named xxxx.01-xxxx.25, but sometimes the game only needs a few of these, not a full scale 01-25 and the files don't always go in order (there are cases where 02-09 files don't even exist, but the games has 10-20. Sometimes there isn't an S rom because the data for S is stored in some other rom (usually the P1 rom).ĬPS-1 roms' filenames might seem odd at first glance, because the filenames (inside the zip) rarely look the same. A Neo-Geo set contains P (program), C (graphics), V (samples), M (Z80 processor instructions) and S (text) roms. Neo-Geo roms are either in.bin or.rom format (only.rom for NeoRAGEx.bins work in Kawaks, Nebula and MAME). Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!ġ. opt/retropie/emulators/gngeopi/share/gngeo. I've tried playing both of these romsets with Mame too, and after getting varying responses, I have the funny feeling of a head against a brick wall for some reason. Neo Geo ROMs require a neogeo.zip BIOS file with the exact same MAME or FB Neo version as the emulator you. I have Kawaks, and that plays only one of the Neo-geo roms I have (cthd2003) and plays only some of the roms I have with FBA. ![]() Most of the roms I have work with NeoRageX. I could really use some help with these questions!!!ġ) With neo-geo (and CPS) roms, how can you tell which emu they're designed to play on?Ģ) Are there converters to transfer compatibility from one emu to the next?ģ) Which emu is most compatible (still being updated?) (Mame.?)ģa).and could you give me a recommendation as to which you deem the best and why? (Kawaks roms are quite impossible to find.) I find myself really needing assistance for the first time. well, things are a bit difficult to understand and after scouring the web and some chatrooms for answers and finding none. However, when I got to Neo-geo and CPS1/2 roms. Set up all the emus, worked out all the glitches on my pc by myself, yada yada. Lemme say first that I've been d/ling roms and using emu's non-stop for the last 4 months or so, starting with snes, nes, gg, sms, gba, and roms for saturn, dreamcast and psx, and a bit of experience with mame. A golden opportunity for enjoying some amazing sagas like Metal Slug and The King of Fighters.Hey all, nice to see a emu help board that's actually current! I looked through the topics already and couldn't see something that adressed this, so.! It doesn't have the hundreds of configuration options that other emulators have, but it doesn't need them. NEO.emu Free is a good, free Neo-Geo emulator. The controls, with their perfectly defined touch buttons, are comfortable and automatically adapt to the orientation of the screen. Once you have the ROMs and BIOS inside the same folder, just click on the ROM you want to run and you'll be playing the game in seconds. The BIOS packet, by the way, occupies around 4 megabytes and is not hard to find. ![]() And even more important is that these BIOS files are named ‘neogeo.zip’. The main thing is having the ROMs you're going to use inside the same folder that the BIOS are in. NEO.emu Free is a powerful Neo-Geo emulator that lets you enjoy some of the greatest classics from this console – like Metal Slug, The King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown, and Fatal Fury – right on your Android.Ĭonfiguring the emulator is NOT hard, but can be a little problematic if you don't know how to do it or which files to use.
